I am starting this post with another shot of my notebook.

This is my last year at UP, my seventh year to be exact. With only 10 units left before graduation, I am starting to feel tired yet excited of what lies ahead after I complete the remaining courses. This is not the first time that I am doing a thesis and a software project. Yet, the expectations and standards I am setting for myself have put much weight into my mind.
Perhaps the 1-month of self-debate to change the topic or not is the cause. I finally decided to change it anyway before meeting with my adviser. Profesor Ria gave me a starting point for my software project and it became even more clear that I’ve made the right decision.
I will be developing an e-Government system for the Barangay level. The project aims to contribute to the development of the community through implementation of ICT and improve the current process of delivering services in the barangay.
I finished my RRL last November and I am putting here my thoughts on the materials that I’ve consumed.
– Majority of the e-Barangay software I reviewed are web-based
– These systems did not go through heuristic evaluation
– Their standard in measuring the viability of their design was through surveys, user acceptance
– There has been minimal effort in catering to residents who used mobile devices aside from adaptive design / mobile first design
It is easy to jump ahead into the drawing board and code right away. But the time I spent on research has helped me unearthed insights that will affect the direction of the system’s design. I am thankful for my professor in research, Prof. Em Amoloza, on how she emphasizes to always use “critical thinking” in our research and final project.
This project will be more on research and I plan to design and code after I gather more information through engagement with the people in the barangay. It is tempting to approach the project in a techno-centric mindset, by prioritizing technologies rather than looking at the problem first.
This will be my “Last Hurrah” at UP. I’ve done smaller projects in the past during my time here at the university. I always try to put my heart and soul into these projects, but sometimes my skills and time were not enough to deliver. For this last project, I hope I will be able to deliver. Padayon (carry on)!
